SensoryPlus Awareness Day reaches Aberdeenshire
Renown guest speaker Richard Hirstwood offered his characteristic whistle-stop tour of the multi-sensory fundamentals, the National Autistic Society's Lisa Sturgess outlined the considerations required in communication with those on the spectrum and Sharon Napier and Wendy Milne, from Linn Moor explained the principles of the TEACCH service.
Jacqueline Thomson, Day Centre Officer for Banff Day Services commented;
"Lots of new ideas which I can take back to my workplace and share with fellow colleagues and also put in place at work."
The Awareness Days, which SensoryPlus subsidises to help individuals and establishments take up multiple places, seek to develop a simple understanding of the potential of multi-sensory equipment. Suited to those just beginning to work with these types of tools and those looking to reinvigorate enthusiasm for their existing equipment.
Taking up numerous places were staff from Linn Moor School with whom SensoryPlus has worked on two separate environments over the past two years, Support Worker Neil Cooper reflected on the high marks he gave the various presentations;
"I am not 'coping out'
by giving everyone '5's. I genuinely thought everything and everybody contributed to a very informative and extremely well organised day".
SensoryPlus rolls on to Harrow, London (14th October) and then Coventry, Brighton, Greater Manchester and Swindon in 2010. If you and your colleagues are interested in joining the hundreds who have benefited from this simple but informative day over the past three years, then visit
