A varied mix of multi-sensory practitioners left the latest SensoryPlus Awareness Day, held in Cardiff, with a smile on their face thanks to the experience, knowledge and charisma of some of the field’s most respected speakers.
The day showcased the talents and methods of Richard Hirstwood, the most internationally renown and inimitable trainer in Multi-Sensory best practice, Chris Barson, who spoke on behalf of the National Autistic Society and delivered a characteristically fascinating session on understanding Autism and Suzanne Little, a revered Multi-Sensory coordinator from SCOPE school Meldreth Manor in Hertfordshire.
All the sessions offered value and insight to the delegates, a fact heartily reflected by the delegates' feedback, Karen Davies from Heronsbridge School commented. "the delivery of the course was very interesting, kept me interested and focussed" adding "Inspirational!"
SensoryPlus Awareness Days are heavily subsidised, at £70 per delegate, and are specifically orientated toward the speakers and their presentations and not the selling of equipment; a point Lesley-Anne Wise of Plymouth Portage confirmed, "a very smoothly run day, warm, relaxed and none threatening." Exactly the feel SensoryPlus strives for.
David Payne, SensoryPlus Product Manager explains the theory behind the event. "Since we first started these days back in 2006 the focus has always been about delivering information, though we have equipment on display to compliment the presentations, it is always in the background. It would entirely conflict with SensoryPlus' way of working if the day differed, and the reason we are able to attract renown figures like Richard and Suzanne is because they believe in the integrity of the day and the ethos of the company."
